Correctional Officer

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Assisting in maintaining the security of the correctional complex facility.
Conducting daily physical inspections of the facilities and the searching of inmates and visitors.
Receiving, booking and securing inmates into the correctional facility.
Supervising inmates in activities including appearance in court, recreation, visitation, serving of meals.
Processing legal documents in the facility.
Ensuring the safety and welfare of the general public and inmates during transportation to different locations by various means of travel.
Participating and assisting in handling physical confrontations.
Performing any other tasks as assigned.
Other Requirements:
Regular attendance is essential.
Must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assignment scheduled.
Must have the ability to work well with others.
Hiring will be contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check, pre-employment physical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug test.
Physical demands and environmental factors are also essential function of the job.
Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to withstand prolonged standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pulling, walking flights of stairs, etc.
Must be able to read and write the English language, and to hear audible sounds such as normal conversations, audible alarms and radio transmissions.
Environmental Factors:
May be exposed to inclement weather.
May work varying shift hours and some occasional overtime.
May have direct extended contact with mentally ill persons, physically violent persons and persons accused of and convicted of criminal activity.
May be exposed to personal and environmentally hazardous condition of all types.
Organizational Relationships:
Report to the Shift Supervisor.
Has frequent contact with other departmental and county employees, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, judges, attorneys and the general public.
Minimal Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.
S.
Citizen.
Must be a High School Graduate or equivalent.
Must have a current valid Texas Driver License.
Must not have a conviction or deferred adjudication of a Class B misdemeanor or higher class offense with the last 10 years.
Must be able to obtain a TCOLE jailer certification within one year.
Must pass all written and physical examinations.
Preferred but not required:
Current full-time officer working in Corrections.
Preferred but not required:
Six months current experience as a Corrections Officer.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
