Job Description Reports to the manager of certification and is responsible for the quality, timing, and substance of all certification reports required according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations. Advises project engineers on design and engineering issues as related to overall safety and performance as required by FAA rules and regulations. Approves test setups, witnesses testing, troubleshoots issues pertaining to dynamic and static seat performance and testing issues. Provides cost, timing, and open issues reports to sales for obtaining final quotes to customers. Attends Initial Technical Coordination Meetings (ITCM) with Boeing and Airbus and seat integrators to provide certification expertise and direction. Complementary Description Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):
A) Schedules certification & testing workload for assigned projects in accordance with program milestones, provides status and schedule updates to certification manager. B) Works with certification engineers to ensure on time completion of tasks with proper quality. C) Ensures proper compliance with regulatory, air framer requirements and company policies & procedures. D) Guides and trains certification engineers. E) Ensures continued improvements of certification. F) Checks certification reports and data for accuracy. G) Defines and maintains standardization. H) Coordinates and ensures proper communication with regulatory bodies to be in compliance. I) Ensures compliance with company procedures and certification internal procedures. J) Provides certification direction for designers and engineers, including attending design reviews. K) Completes the Request for Quotation certification section supporting all quoting activity for sales. L) Attends customer and industry meetings as required to support certification activities including rules, regulations and customer directives. M) Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements A) Knowledge and Skills:
i) Familiarity with FAA regulations, Boeing/Airbus specifications are required. Knowledge in Finite Element Analysis software (e.g., Hyperworks, LS Dyna, etc.) is preferred. ii) Must be able to communicate well with internal departments, customers, and regulatory agencies. iii) Experience in transport airplane seating system certification process is required with emphasis in structural testing of seats and seat components. iv) Must be detail oriented and have sound engineering judgment. v) Must be self-motivated and a self-starter. vi) Must have ability to think strategically and solve problems. vii) Must be able to communicate efficiently in writing and verbally. viii) Must be able to operate standard office equipment. ix) Must be able to perform standard stress analysis. x) Must have complete knowledge of FAA and airframe manufacturer requirements. xi) Must be familiar with quality conformity procedures. xii) Must be able to generate documents such as, plans, data sheets and reports. xiii) Must have the ability to perform tests and some physical work at the test laboratory, as required. B) Education and
Experience:
i) Must have a M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace Science, Aerospace Safety, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Engineering, Mechanical and Energy Engineering or a related engineering degree with a minimum of 2 years of certification experience. OR ii) Must have a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace Science, Aerospace Safety, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Engineering, Mechanical and Energy Engineering or a related engineering degree with a minimum of 5 years of certification experience. iii) Must be familiar with FAA regulations and airframe manufacturer's specifications. iv) Supervisory experience preferred but not required. v) Experience in finite element analysis methods or MSC NASTRAN is preferred but not required. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
